Community Based Design Process

The act of public space design is a process of listening, interpreting, listening more, and then beginning to turn purpose and program into design. As the team responsible for developing and implementing a vision for the revitalization of Metropolitan Park, we will listen to the community and stakeholders, interpret what we learn from them, and form ideas about the purposes and programs that will bring new life to the park. To be successful we will build a relationship with the community based on understanding and trust, with a little bit of joy mixed in.

Engaging the Community

Community Meeting #1

On April 17th, the Metropolitan Park Design Team hosted our first community open house.

Over 80 community members participated in a variety of engagement activities to share their memories, make suggestions for the types of spaces and activities that they would like to see, and to evaluate the projects guiding principles.

Following the community event over 225 community members participated in an online survey. The infographics below depict what we heard, and how the community input will shape our approach to developing design alternatives for the park.
